I’m sitting in Sedona AZ and thought this was probably as good of a time as ever to begin my blog. If you have never been to Sedona it’s a very special place. It’s very beautiful and the red rock is unlike any other place on earth I’ve ever been. I’m here taking another John F Barnes Myofascial Release course. This one focuses on the Cervical Thoracic part of the body. Which is from the top of your head to your hips. I’ve taken other courses before and this work molds extremely well with my work as a Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching Master Trainer.

This trip I am learning much deeper things about myself. For those that know me, I’m a bit of a control freak. For me to be able to let go and begin to unwind all of my past fascial restrictions is huge.

For those that are unfamiliar with the term “Fascia” It is a three dimensional web that intertwines all through your body. It encompasses everything, separates everything, and conducts everything in your entire body. Think of an orange when you peel it open. This is exactly how fascia separates all of the structures in your body.

Fascial restrictions can cause unbelieveable problems in your body, these can happen due to trauma, injury, even emotional issues can get trapped and cause fascial problems. Those thoughts are energy too. They are transmitted throughout your body through electrical synapses. So basically everything can effect restrict fascia. My emotional response that presents itself as fascial restriction is fear.

I am learning during this seminar that I have allowed fear to control so much in my life, and it isn’t right. It’s keeping me from being able to live the life I really should be. Fear encompasses so much and means such different things to people. Last night my friend suggested I play a game when I was alone later. I called it the “And,and, and,” game. It’s not an easy game at all. Basically, you start by writing something down about your life. I think I started with something I don’t like about myself. AND a million “ANDS” later I came to the conclusion that so much for me is based upon fear. Fear about getting on the plane, fear of taking the wrong turn on a trail alone, fear of taking chances, fear of not taking chances, fear of people not accepting you, fear of the dark, and so on. Fear can be crippling really. It can disguise itself as strength sometimes, and I’m not saying I’m not strong. I just know this lesson isn’t about strength.

There is a saying that goes “Do one thing a day that scares you.” That’s a pretty powerful tiny sentence. So I challenge you to play the “And,and, and,” game and see what you come up with. It’s a great way to get started seeing more clearly and understanding how to break out of the patterns we force ourselves into.
