What is John F. Barnes Myofascial Release?

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (JFB MFR) is a safe, hands-on soft tissue mobilization technique that facilitates an expansion of the restricted fascia. Releasing the constricted fascia allows your body to return to the structure it should have.

Fascia is tough connective tissue that is prevalent in your entire body. It is a three dimensional web that winds around everything in your body, providing structure, stability, cushion and communication. Tight fascia restricts movement and causes many problems throughout your body.

Myofascial restrictions occur from trauma, surgery, emotional stress, environmental stress and inflammatory processes. These restrictions can produce pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch. Essentially, this creates a structure that loses its ability to move. These fascial restrictions do not show up on any traditional, standardized medical test. (X-Ray, MRI, CAT scan)  Making it difficult for many people to diagnose or treat. These symptoms show up as pain, discomfort, stress or misalignment. Symptoms are typically only a cause of the deeper effect. Fascial adhesions and restrictions do not release quickly, which is why many traditional types of therapies don’t last.  Trauma and inflammation dehydrate these areas of restriction making it impossible for communication to happen in the body.

When you are injured or experience a traumatic experience, your body shields you from the pain. It goes in to a fight or flight response and causes you to “freeze.” Society today teaches us to deal with this and bury the trauma or pain. This positional physiological memory becomes indelibly imprinted into our mind/body awareness, where it remains trapped until released. These bracing patterns cause our bodies to remain in unnatural positions for many years. These patterns eventually show up as symptoms. Most of the time these symptoms are  not the root cause of the problem. Myofascial Release frees these powerful, structural restrictions. Only gentle  sustained pressure is applied to a client.
It is recommended during a session for a client to wear a bathing suit, or shorts and a sports bra. (for women)  It is also important not to apply lotion before a session as the friction and resistance is a crucial element for healing and release to occur. JFB MFR helps many conditions, Including but not limited to, Back Pain, TMJ, Disc problems, Headaches, Sports Injuries, Whiplash, Fibromyalgia, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Migraines, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel, Adhesions, Neck Pain, Scoliosis, Specific Pelvic problems, Sciatica and many more.
